Enhanced viewfinders became the dominant theme among housing manufacturers, with Julian Scheunemann publishing a definitive analysis of standard vs enhanced viewfinders. The Canon EOS-1D Mark III brought live view to Canon DSLRs. Jim Watt and Larry Smith, two beloved community figures, passed away. Shawn Heinrichs joined Wetpixel’s moderating team and the Amazon shark fin campaign succeeded within 10 days. The Wetpixel Quarterly print magazine launched, co-founded by Eric Cheng and Elijah Woolery. The Nikon D300 and Nikon D3 (Nikon’s first full-frame DSLR) were announced, triggering a massive housing race. Canon 40D and 1Ds Mark III arrived. Gates announced the DEEP RED housing for the RED One 4K cinema camera, in collaboration with Howard Hall. Light & Motion introduced LED video lights.
