Overview
Fantasea Line is an international company dedicated to developing, manufacturing, and marketing affordable underwater photography products for the diving, water sports, and photography markets. The company describes itself as “distributor of the world’s most popular and affordable underwater photographic products” ([4]). Fantasea specializes in injection-molded polycarbonate housings — lighter and less expensive than machined aluminum alternatives from Nauticam, Aquatica, Subal, and others — targeting entry-level to mid-range underwater photographers, travel photographers, and dive shops.
A distinctive feature of Fantasea’s business model has been the inclusion of pre-paid flood insurance with all housings, covering camera replacement in case of accidental water leakage. This was unique among housing manufacturers and addressed a major concern for photographers nervous about taking expensive cameras underwater. ([5], [6])
Fantasea cooperates with leading international manufacturers on joint venture projects for product development and distribution ([7]). From 2018, the company formed a significant partnership with AOI (a Japanese optical company) to co-develop high-quality wet lenses for compact and mirrorless camera systems.
Key People
Howard Rosenstein has been the public face of Fantasea at trade shows throughout the company’s history, appearing at DEMA and other events from at least 2005 through 2019. He posts on the Wetpixel forums under the username “Hman.” His son Nadav Rosenstein also works at the company and has appeared alongside Howard at DEMA shows from 2007 onward. ([8], [9], [10])
Ran Vered appeared with Howard Rosenstein at the Fantasea booth at DEMA 2006 and has been involved in the company’s operations. ([11])
Market Position
Fantasea competes primarily on price and accessibility:
- Polycarbonate construction vs. machined aluminum — lighter, less expensive, but with less perceived durability. All housings are injection-molded polycarbonate, depth-rated to 60m/200ft (some dive lights rated to 100m/330ft). ([12])
- Full camera control access — a key differentiator over manufacturer-supplied housings (e.g., Canon WP-DC series), which often lack access to important controls like front command dials and flash disable. ([13], [14])
- Complete system approach — housings sold alongside trays, arms, strobes, fiber optic cables, and conversion lenses as integrated packages, with compact camera packages running under $400 retail as of 2006. ([15])
- Flood insurance included with every housing purchase, providing camera replacement coverage for one year. ([16])
- Sport versions for dive shop rentals that limit the accessible feature set, preventing renters from changing camera settings. ([17])
The FG7X review by Wetpixel editor Adam Hanlon concluded: “The Fantasea FG7X perfectly bridges the gap between the Canon housing and more expensive aluminum models. It has good ergonomics and is feature rich… It seems robust, solid and well-made and should last for many seasons.” ([18])
Product Timeline

- 2013-04: FG15 housing for Canon PowerShot G15. Priced at $575/EUR550. Depth-tested to 80m, certified to 60m/200ft. Featured fiber optic ports, dedicated video button, leak detector, and the F-series design language shared with FP7000/FP7100. ([44])
- 2013-07: FG15 reviewed by Wetpixel editor Adam Hanlon. Praised full camera control access (including front command dial, which Canon’s own WP-DC48 housing lacked), robust polycarbonate construction, leak detector, rotating closure with lock, and dual O-ring seal. Noted excessive positive buoyancy and some closely-spaced rear buttons. Concluded it offered significant advantages over the Canon housing. ([45])
- 2013-12: FG16 housing for Canon PowerShot G16. Priced at $499.95 (or from $999.95 with camera bundle). Featured full access to all camera controls (unlike Canon’s own housing), double fiber optic port, moisture detector as standard. Depth-tested to 80m, certified to 60m. ([46])

- 2015-08: FG7X housing reviewed by Adam Hanlon. Verdict: “perfectly bridges the gap between the Canon housing and more expensive aluminum models.” Praised feature richness, ergonomics, and competitive pricing around $500. Noted very limited camera battery life (~100-150 shots) and slow RAW continuous shooting (<1fps) as camera limitations. ([51])

Community Discussion
Fantasea housings are frequently discussed on the Wetpixel forums, particularly in threads about compact camera and budget-friendly mirrorless setups. Community members note:
- The Canon G7 X II in Fantasea housing with Inon S2000 strobe(s) is a popular compact system. One long-time user reported shooting with this setup since 2016, praising its light weight and the F Series Air Lens for quick wide-angle switching underwater. ([94])
- Fantasea housings are recommended as a cost-effective polycarbonate option alongside the aluminum Nauticam for compact cameras. ([95])
- The Fantasea-AOI UWL-09 wet wide lens is mentioned as a viable wide-angle option for mirrorless systems alongside Weefine/Kraken alternatives. ([96])
- Battery life remains the main limitation, though experienced users report being able to change batteries between dives in under 60 seconds. ([97])
